Ashfield 8th-Graders Win a Statewide Civics Award!

WE DECLARE! ASHFIELD IS A STATEWIDE WINNER!

We are thrilled to announce that Ashfield Middle School’s 8th-grade students have been named winners of the inaugural WE DECLARE CHALLENGE— a statewide civics competition celebrating student voices, history, and civic engagement!

Out of 145 submissions from 44 school districts across Massachusetts, Ashfield was selected as one of only THREE WINNING CLASSROOMS and received the prestigious John & Abigail Adams Award for Civic Leadership.

This incredible achievement recognizes our students’ creativity, collaboration, and thoughtful interpretation of the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence. They didn’t just read history — they brought those words to life and connected them to the world around them.

As part of this honor, Ashfield Middle School will receive funding to support our students and classrooms.

Huge congratulations to our amazing 8th graders, and a special thank you to Mrs. Williams for spearheading this project, the students of the Digital Creators Elective, our 8th Grade Civics Teachers, Mrs. Kelly and Mr. Chery, and Ms. Mont Rond, who filmed the amazing drone footage. We are so proud of the passion, dedication, and civic spirit our students demonstrated!
